Merk oversees Schwab's Investment Management Services division and is responsible for developing and delivering innovative asset management products and services. He is also president and CEO of Charles Schwab Investment Management, the mutual fund advisor to Schwab and Laudus funds. Additionally, he is responsible for Schwab's Mutual Fund MarketPlace® and Mutual Fund OneSource® relationships, fixed income trading, structured products, insurance products and annuities. Prior to his current position, Mr. Merk served as president of Schwab Financial Products, with responsibility for mutual funds, managed accounts, insurance and annuity services, and mutual fund clearing services. He was also responsible for management of Charles Schwab Bank, an affiliate of Charles Schwab & Co., Inc.. Before joining Schwab in 2002, he spent 15 years at American Century Investments and Benham Capital Management (acquired by American Century in 1995) in a variety of positions, including president of the investment management division and chief investment officer. Mr. Merk earned a bachelor's degree from the University of California at Davis and his master of business administration in finance from Golden Gate University.
